How to get there:
The best way to get out to Fire Island is by the train from Penn Station. Take the LIRR train to Bay Shore;(the Babylon Line) it's about an hour ride. The train station is about a mile from the ferry. To get to the ferry, take one of the taxi services (Tommy's or David's) to the Ocean Beach Ferry; or you may walk if you wish (it's a 15 minute walk). At the ferry dock, make sure you purchase a round-trip ticket (you do not want to be stuck on the island). The ferry ride costs about $11 for the round trip, and takes about 25 minutes. HELPFUL TIP: You can purchase a book of ferry tickets (20 round trips) for approx $180.00. It's a good idea to split the book with someone. From The City you can also take Tommy's taxi service. Tommy's will take you directly to the ferry. Call Tommy's Taxi in LI for schedule, fare and pick up points.

Of course, you may also drive... Just get to Bay Shore. (Exit 40 off the Southern State Parkway - into Robert Moses Parkway - to the Bay Shore exit.) The way to the ferries is indicated on little green signs. |
